Nearby question

Is “one player = one character = one interiority” necessary?

In Bluebeard's Bride, the participants collectively play the Bride, one woman composed of several psychic facets. Each player embodies a Sister — Fear, Rage, Shame, Desire, and so on — and participates from that position while exploring the house.

What it makes possible

Internal conflict becomes a conflict of perspectives literally distributed around the table. Players need not individually simulate a contradictory psyche: the social device externalizes and pluralizes interiority.

That distribution introduces its own coordination cost: participants must accept shared authority over one fictional identity.

For Resonance

Bluebeard's Bride is a strong case of complexity made practicable through distribution. Instead of reducing a character's internal contradiction, the game turns it into a structure of participation.
