La Voie Lunaire and solo play

Status

Historical experiment / laboratory archaeology. The practice predates the current formalization of Resonance.

Question tested

How can a fictional world remain alive in solo play without a complete scenario or another human responsible for producing the next situation?

Burden targeted

Reduce the need to prepare a plot and the solo player's blank page in front of an unlimited possibility space.

Complexity to preserve or generate

The world must retain causality, surprise, memory, consequences, and the ability to branch beyond what the player planned.

Device

La Voie Lunaire used a loop close to: frame → protagonists → world documentation → Situation seed → goals → uncertainty → resolution → consequence → next Situation. Oracles and signs narrowed possibility without writing the whole story.

Observation

At small scale, consequences naturally produce new Situations and minor elements can acquire unexpected importance. At larger scale, this fertility can disperse the story: each branch opens new futures without guaranteeing a perceptible direction.

Burden shift

Solo play removes social coordination and the GM, but their functions do not disappear. They are partly carried by procedure, world documentation, oracles, and the solo player's own judgment.

Implication

This experiment directly feeds work on Situation and Vector: prepare matter capable of reacting, then preserve direction without writing a trajectory.

See Situation, Vector, and the blank page.

Status

Historical experiment, source of concepts still being formalized.
