Nearby question
How can a fictionally meaningful sentence genuinely matter to the system?
Fate uses Aspects: statements that are true in fiction, can create or remove permissions, can be invoked to affect a roll, or compelled to create complications and feed the Fate Point economy.
What it makes possible
One sentence connects description, fictional permission, and mechanical economy. Players are encouraged to let defining traits complicate their characters' lives.
That power comes through a highly coherent and largely shared grammar: invocation, resource, bonus or reroll, compel.
For Resonance
Fate strongly demonstrates that a sentence can remain true and become mechanical. Resonance can therefore ask a narrower question: when does the nature of fiction call not only for different content, but for a different procedure that makes that content operative?
